MateEngine Blendshapes Guide

This Wiki entry explains the required Blendshapes for MateEngine’s Face Expression System. If some expressions do not work on your custom model, this guide will help you fix that.

Basic VRM/ME Blendshapes These must be correctly set up on your model:

  • Blink
  • Blink_L
  • Blink_R
  • Look Up
  • Look Down
  • Look Left
  • Look Right
  • Neutral
  • A
  • I
  • U
  • E
  • O
  • Joy
  • Angry
  • Sorrow
  • Fun

The Blendshapes A, I, U, E, O are used for mouth movement during AI Chatbot speech or Random Message Events. The Sorrow Blendshape is used when dragging the avatar to show a “>_<” expression. If your model lacks any of these, you must add them manually.

MateEngine-Specific Blendshapes (Future Use) These will be required in upcoming updates:

  • Smile
  • Cry
  • Sad
  • Blush
  • Shy
  • Loved

If your model doesn’t include them, create them using the Blendshape features in VRM 0.x or VRM 1.x. Reference images for each expression will be added later. Most VRM or VRChat models already include enough facial shapes that can be reused to create these.
