Facets took its name in version 0.5.0 on 2004-12-23 (see work/HISTORY-0.rdoc), and the old .index metadata recorded 2004-12-16; 1.0 followed in December 2005. The README, site and LICENSE said 2005. They now say 2004. The news page's archive section gains the short origin story from work/HISTORY-0.rdoc: TomsLib (2002), Succ (2003), A.B.C. and Raspberry (2004), then Ruby Facets (December 2004). The README and the contribute page mention the 2002 roots in a phrase. Also from the #337 review: - docs/build.rb sets UTF-8 as the default external encoding, so it no longer crashes outside a UTF-8 locale. - news.html links the 2.4 release post, which was built but not linked. 3.2.0 removed methods and raised the minimum Ruby to 3.1, which under semantic versioning called for 4.0.0. Say so in its release notes, so anyone upgrading from 3.1 knows to treat the 3.2 series as a major upgrade and to check the Removals list. 2004, not 2005
work/HISTORY-0.rdocrecords the rename to Ruby Facets in 0.5.0 on 2004-12-23, and the old.indexmetadata recorded a creation date of 2004-12-16. 1.0.0 followed on 2005-12-04, which is where 2005 came from. These now say 2004:LICENSE.txt:Copyright (c) 2004, Thomas SawyerREADME.md: "Facets took its name in 2004, growing out of a small methods library started in 2002"Origin story
The news page's archive section, retitled "Over twenty years of ideas.", gains a short history from
work/HISTORY-0.rdoc:3.2.0 should have been 4.0.0 (
922b856)3.2.0 removed methods and raised the minimum Ruby to 3.1, which under semantic versioning called for a major version. Rather than yanking the 3.2 releases, which would break anyone whose lockfile pins them,
HISTORY.mdnow says so at the top of the 3.2.0 notes:The next release, which already contains breaking changes, can be 4.0.0.
Fixes from the #337 review
