We discussed this at GLATOS 2020, making our plotting functions ggplot compatible might take on a couple of forms. We should have them make plots much like the existing ones but using ggplot instead of base. We could also have them return plot objects and invite people to add extra styles/aesthetics on top of them. I'm unsure of how difficult it might then be to make material changes to the stuff we've already plotted, so this one might be a second-phase idea, once we've determined how people want to work with these plots. I'm going to do something counter-intuitive and start w/ the milestone for this one. We can build more of the tickets that we think will accomplish this milestone after discussion.
