Description
I'd like to point out:
Precedent: Twitter/Twemoji merged this exact change today (twitter/twemoji#1440),
and this repo already updated Syria's flag to the independence flag (googlefonts/noto-emoji#512)
before any official UN recognition.
"Current state": The Lion and Sun flag is currently being used by millions
of Iranians both inside Iran and in the diaspora. It represents the people,
not a government.
Emoji precedent: The Taiwan flag (🇹🇼) is included despite the PRC's position.
Emoji flags don't always align strictly with UN recognition.
I believe this change aligns with how this project handled Syria's flag.
But I respect whatever decision the maintainers make.
