It doesn't seem like a bad idea to display the image even if it's been saved.

But when image is shown, it pauses the script until you close it, not saving them until you close every single image

Ok, agreed. In that case, it may be better to add a flag show_image (with the default value set to True) to the plotting function instead of automatically not showing it if an outfile is detected.
