# Exercism just solved its biggest problem

If you spend ten minutes online researching where to learn to code, Exercism inevitably comes up. On Reddit, TikTok, and Instagram, there are countless posts — often with hundreds of thousands of reshares — recommending Exercism as *the* place to learn to code.

But here's the thing: Exercism sucks as a place to learn to code.

I get to say this, because I made it — well, me and a lot of other people — but still, seriously: don't use Exercism to learn to code.

Use **[Jiki](https://jiki.io)** instead!

Exercism has never been designed for beginners. It's made for people who can already code and want to practice, or pick up a new language. It's a great platform, and so well-meaning people recommend it to beginners. The result is that thousands of beginners sign up every week — and nearly all of them end up disappointed.

Two years ago, I decided I'd had enough of letting all these people down, and set out to build the best, most fun, most useful platform for beginners.

While we were making it, LLMs came along and changed what it even means to learn to code. So we widened our ambition: Jiki doesn't just teach you coding skills, it teaches the actual skills you need to build and make things.

Jiki is now live. Hundreds of hours of beginner-focused content, all for free, along with some Premium goodies for those who want to support us.

I'm not going to waste your time telling you how great it is — go sign up and find out for yourself!

For years, beginners have come to Exercism and been disappointed. Now, when they arrive, they get pointed to the best place on the internet to actually learn to code.

And that's good for everyone. It gives beginners a far better experience, and it makes Exercism better too — keeping its exercises, content, and mentoring conversations aligned with the people it was designed for.

So go and [sign up to Jiki](https://jiki.io), and let me know what you think. Oh, and [subscribe to our new YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/@jiki) too — we've got lots of live streams coming up.

The youtube link seems wrong. Shorts of kittens, no mention of coding. Cute, but not obviously the right place to subscribe.

https://www.youtube.com/@jiki-coding for what I believe is the correct link.

Thanks for watching! 🙂
