NANOPHOTONICS AND OPTOELECTRONICS MATERIALS RESEARCH GROUP

This research group is led by Dr. Raúl E. Balderas-Navarro, with postdoctoral researcher Dr. Oscar Ruiz Cigarrillo serving as repository administrator and research collaborator.

The group focuses on studying the optical, electronic, and electromagnetic properties of nanostructured semiconductor materials and photonic nanostructures, combining experimental and theoretical approaches. Experimental techniques include Reflectance Anisotropy Spectroscopy (RAS), Photoreflectance (PR), Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (SE), Photoluminescence (PL), and Magneto-Optic Kerr Effect (MOKE). On the theoretical side, we perform first-principles and many-body ab initio calculations (DFT, GW-BSE, TDDFT) using codes such as Quantum Espresso, YAMBO, VASP, and GPAW, complemented by classical electromagnetic and photonic simulations (FDTD, FEM) with COMSOL Multiphysics, Lumerical, and Tidy3D. We are also incorporating machine learning and deep learning methods to accelerate materials discovery and data analysis.
