Can i use use a 8 channel infrared tracker for line following using your repo?

I don't know exactly what hardware you want to use. As long as you have access to a library capable of interpreting the signals emitted by your sensor, you will be able to interface it with my code. Just be sure that the communication is I2C. Most of the Arduino boards have only one hardware serial interface and it is used to communicate the the hub. Of course ESP MCUs can have more than 1 serial interface. I do not recommend using software serial interfaces because they are unreliable.

Keep in mind that this involves replacing a real PoweredUp sensor on the interface of the application you are using. You will need to feed the position information back to the Lego API.

As far as I can remember, there is no such sensor in the Lego ecosystem. So you will have to be inventive.

For example, you could pretend that your sensor is a Color Sensor or a Color and Distance Sensor. If the sensor library allows you to determine whether you are too far to the right or too far to the left of the line, then you will be able to discretize this information into “Reflected Light Intensity” values.

Choose a scale of values. For example, send a value of 0 to turn sharply left, 25 to turn slightly left, 50 to go straight ahead, 75 to turn right, and 100 to turn sharply right. Once in the PoweredUp app, these values will be easy to interpret as rotation commands for the motors.
