First of all there is no known (that I know of) remote desktop that works at login that is not X11 based. Wayland would need to new protocol or what ever they call it to allow it. If you want a remote desktop you will have to use X11. as of now the only one that I have found that works at login with void linux is NoMachine. rustdesk did when I was running ubuntu but not on void for some reason. https://download.nomachine.com/download/?id=30&platform=linux&distro=arm NOTE: I have notices at lot of things built for ubuntu or debian work just find in void linux if you extract the deb and copy the files to the respective location other than systemd stuff which is great since I came to void for that reason. |

I'm trying to switch my rpi4 over from PiOS to void, but is doesn't seem as clear-cut as I thought.
So far, I have come across two major hindrances to be able to really let go of PiOS.
Apparently, wine is missing from the aarch64 repo. Which seems odd, as winetricks, wine-mono and wine-gecko are available. Which, I assume make no sense of having without also installing wine. Maybe wine once was available on aarch64 but has been removed, and the other packages stayed?
I'm using remmina to connect to and work on the rpi4 running PiOS - which runs xrpd-server in order to accept the incoming rdp-session request by remmina. But on void there's no xrdp. So, I thought, I just use freerdp-server or freerdp3-server. But, as I have learned, that isn't intended to work the was xrdp-server works - being able to be run at boot. Apparently freerdp-shadow-cli(3) can only be run on x11 by a logged-in user, which defeats the purpose of using remmina for logging in as that user "from remote" and not having to switch to the rpi to log in "locally".
I'm still logging in "locally", i.e. from within the local network.
A few years back I found a template for xrdp and build a few versions of it - unfortunately only for x86_64, probably because I didn't know how to cross-build back then. And now that I have done it for other packages and would like to do it for xrdp as well, the build even falls for x86_64, probably because of some incompatible dependencies - which is still beyond my skill to solve.
Iirc, on PiOS I had to install also tigervnc for the whole ordeal to work, but in addition to xrdp not instead of. So, I'm not sure if void linux has any rdp-server usable in a way to get the task done I try to accomplish.
