Problem or Motivation

Currently, Kaset integrates beautifully with the native macOS Now Playing system and AppleScript, but it lacks a visual footprint outside the main application window or the system menu bar. Users who want to view current album art, track progress, or quickly glance at the active song title have to reopen the main application or access the native Control Center panel.

Proposed Solution

Introduce native macOS desktop and Notification Center widgets utilizing Apple's WidgetKit framework.
Ideally, the app would offer three standard sizes:

  • Small: Displays minimal album artwork and a simple play/pause state.
  • Medium: Adds the track title, artist name, and basic transport controls (Skip/Previous).
  • Large: Includes a mini-playlist layout, full playback timeline, or a "Recently Played" history view.

Alternatives Considered

Using third-party menu bar managers or creating custom Raycast/Alfred scripts via the AppleScript API. While functional, these options lack the rich visual appeal and ease-of-use provided by native macOS widgets.

Feature Area

UI / UX Integration (WidgetKit Support)

How important is this feature to you?

Would improve the native listening experience making it more in line with spotify/others.

Proposed Solution

3 widgets one in each size. That would be wonderful.
