Local API access?

As the MyVaillant API didn't work yesterday for several hours, I wondered if there are efforts to access heaters/controllers locally without the need to use the external API?

I suppose the traffic is encrypted, but just wondering if they have been efforts to reverse engineer this

It would be the graal...
Because the solution is not bad, I'm using it since 5 years and it works well.

Apple's homekit integration is local.
And it can control our Vaillant heat pump.
Not possible to control the water heater part.
