What is the intended timeframe for releasing 16.2 and 17.0? |
|
Hi all, Just wanted to add some details related to the delay. There are three things we wanted to happen with 17.0
Given these needs and trying to avoid conflicts with Sandia TUG Day and SC25, we decided to postpone the release until the 11/24/2025 timeframe (+/-3 days). We are working through the mechanics of having three releases in the short time (16.2, 17.0rc?, and 17.0), so the exact final date has not been determined. However we should make it clear that we do not expect another delay, so everyone should consider this timeframe as firm, and plan accordingly. If you have any questions, please let us know. Thanks, |

Hi all, As part of a major release (e.g., 17.0), Trilinos policy allows developers an opportunity to break backward compatibility. Given that the 17.0 release is a little more complex than normal, we would like to ask developers let the @trilinos/framework know of PRs that break backward compatibility and should be part of the major release, 17.0. Thanks Curt |

As of 11/24 all deprecated packages have been removed from the
developbranchThe
masterbranch will soon follow with the nextmastermerge process from thedevelopbranch (~11/28)As the configure and build-time warnings have indicated for some time now, Trilinos has scheduled removal of the Epetra-based packages for 2025. The time is now upon us to remove the deprecated packages.
We are planning on releasing v16.2.0 of the code immediately prior to merging that PR, with 17.0.0rc0 following that PR. Trilinos 16.2.0 will be the last release to include the deprecated packages. Trilinos 17.0.0rc0 will remove all capability related to the deprecated packages, but will otherwise be functionally identical to 16.2.0.
17.0.0rc0/16.2.0 are tentatively planned for 2025/11/24
