Summary
Is there an existing issue for this?
Could not find one among the open ones.
But there is an older one stating the opposite of what I am proposing: #4772 (comment)
The comment by tcatlas on Jul 25, 2024 got it right.
Summary
Pressing Enter (in e.g. comments) will instantly send the comment instead of doing a return. Even when within a bullet-list.
There should be an option to get the behavior like in text-writers (i.e. Word or Plane-Pages):
Enter ...to do a full return (to next paragraph, p in HTML)
Shift+Enter ...to do a single-line break (br in HTML)
Ctrl+Enter ...to send/submit the comment
I feel like this should be the default. The user could also have the option to go back to the current setting in the user's Account-Preferences to have it more like a messenger (i.e. Teams).
This is a common debate among users that can be easily resolved:
(Here in Github you have to to a Ctrl+Enter to submit.)
Why should this be worked on?
The tool should work like any other tool for users and UX. Tools like "Word" are still the most commonly used (I guess) and writing comments should work like it does there. Users are extremely hard to re-train in things like this, so a toggle for "Enter to send" should definitely exist.
Prematurely sent comments are an absolute no-go.
