how is optselfdoc actually used

i'm trying to write a small piece of code to test out the ast's optget functionality, and i saw optselfdoc but i don't know how it actually works and where it's defined outside of a c file that isn't a header; can anyone help me with this? i want to see how to make my code self-document with optget functionality
