Doesn't work well on mobile Linux

Great and neat project :)

Tried using Kiwix on my Linux tablet, which did not go well. The user interface isn't really usable on touch screens.

Please consider making Kiwix usable for touch screens, not only the Linux phones and tablets which are getting more common, but also the convertable laptops and touch screen laptops which already are very common.

Difficulties so far:

• scroll bar is hard to use with touch
• list of available media is hard to read
• left side bar takes up a lot of space, making the list on the right even more difficult to use

Thanks for working on this! I believe it is important to have something like Kiwix. It gives a certain peace of mind to have knowledge available in case the internet becomes unavailable for a while. :)

@erebion Thank you for your bug report. Unfortunately, the Linux tablet use case is not a use-case which has been taken in account so far. It might be also relatively hard to fix as I don't even have such a tablet. What model would you recommend?

I don't know how such UI development works, but from a user's perspective it is mostly re-arranging buttons if the screen is small and making sure scrolling works well with touch, without using the scroll bar.

Perhaps ask KDE devs how they do it, as most of their software works on phones nowadays. Pretty sure they will have some good tips. :)

What model would you recommend?

I'm not sure. I just use a former Windows 8 tablet with Debian. It's a slow device and I wouldn't recommend buying it, I only use it because I already have it.

My suggestion would be to test on a phone, as software that scales well on a phone should work on tablets as well, but not necessarily the other way around.

I might be biased, as I've ported Mobian to the Pixel 3a, but that is what I would recommend. Images are available on mobian.org and can simply be flashed using fastboot, so you wouldn't need to spend much time setting up the device itself. :)

It will also be cheaper than a tablet. :D

Adding a language is difficult on the touch screen. Here, a list with check boxes would work really well, I think.

@erebion What's the architecture of the tablet you're trying to run Kiwix Desktop on? Is it an ARM device, or Intel? It would be important to know whether Kiwix Desktop can be compiled to run on a phone chip.

I've tried using Kiwix both on my tablet (amd64), as well as on my phone (arm64).

Debian packages Kiwix for:

• amd64
• arm64
• armhf
• i386
• mips64el

So Kiwix should run on all those architectures.
