Pushing a locally renamed branch creates a new branch instead of tracked

When I create a new branch, e.g. test and push it to origin, then rename it (with lazygit r to e.g. test-1) and then push again, it creates a new branch instead of pushing to the tracked one.

It sounds like your push.default git config is set to simple (or unset, which makes it default to simple), in which case what you are seeing is what you asked for, I'd say. Sounds like you want to do git config --global push.default upstream. Do let me know if I'm off. 😄

You're a savior! It was set to current which essential did the same thing. I've changed it to upstream now and it works 👍
