litecoind obj/alert.o: file not recognized: File format not recognized - debian/ubuntu

I'm getting this error after:
~/Gridcoin-master/src$ make -f makefile.unix

obj/alert.o: file not recognized: File format not recognized
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [litecoind] Error 1

This is related to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file/+bug/1174230

This is not a gridcoin bug, per se, but can you release a tar.gz file so we can still compile gridcoin?

Just realized i could download a zip from github. Tried to make with the zip and got the same error.

I got past this by deleting obj/*.o as they are created again by make.

where is obj/* so I can try to cmomment it out

Just cd into src/obj and delete *.o files in there and recompile.

It just occurred to me that you may be trying to build Gridcoin Research, not Gridcoin classic.
This is the old classic branch.
