Black screen and freeze when connecting to an external monitor with kernel 7.0.2 and NVIDIA GPU

Summary

When connecting to an external monitor through a dock, the display either freezes on the Plasma desktop or switches to a frozen black screen with journal output. The system is not responsive to mouse or keyboard input so it'snot possible to get to a TTY. This makes a hard reboot necessary.

1. Boot into KDE Plasma
2. Connect a docking cable / monitor cable TEST THIS

Expected result

The system uses the external display

Actual result

The display either freezes on the Plasma desktop or switches to a frozen black screen with journal output.

The bug does not happen with the current kernel, with all other software being the same

Another laptop with an Intel GPU does not have any problems with the 7.0.2 kernel

I tried booting into the kernel with the flag
modprobe.blacklist=nouveau

This allows successful docking, but there are kernel errors in the journal logs related to thunderbolt and sysfs
There's a call trace after the sysfs error

I can boot with 7.0.3 without the modprobe flag, docking works fine
