Extra step to delete a vertex when starting a new line or point feature

Issue

When beginning to add a new point or line, the vertex is automatically dropped. Once I snap to the end of a line, I have to open the options and update the point. This happens no matter how close I have the cursor to start the creation.

Expected Behavior

Should be able to snap to a point or location on a line feature, then choose to add a line or point feature.
