It turns out that those emoji in my feed aren't coming across so well...
Presumably this is a feature(?) of venus being written in python2 and there's little you can do about it. (Do I recall that pre-3 python had a default character encoding that was not entirely unreasonable for its era?)
I see there is a reasonably modern replacement in the form of https://github.com/feedreader/pluto, though it's written in ruby and there doesn't seem to be a debian package. I've half a mind to try to cobble something together in rust, in my copious (ha ha) free time.
