The new logo is very different from the previous one. I think we should talk as a team before making these changes. @mrjimenez
Personally, I prefer the old logo. If you are making a new one from scratch you should commit the SVG to the repository so we can make even larger logos in the future.

Apologies @ngosang — you're right, I should have flagged this as a design change, not just a resolution refresh. They looked equivalent to me at first glance and I conflated "render at higher res" with "same design at higher res" when in fact #15 swapped to a new master that's noticeably different.

Context on why the bump landed: a 256×256 PNG is a hard requirement for Flathub catalogue submission (and a meaningful win for hi-DPI displays on KDE Plasma / GNOME Shell on Wayland), and the existing 128×128 was below that minimum. So the resolution bump is needed; the design swap was an inadvertent side effect of using a new raster master I had on hand.

Two paths forward, your call:

1. Revert to the old design, upscale-only. Lanczos-upscale the existing 128 to 256 (and regenerate the .ico / .icns from the same source). Quality at 256 will be slightly soft vs a true vector render, but acceptable. Old design preserved, Flathub minimum satisfied.
2. Keep the new design, get team buy-in first. If the new look is acceptable on review, we ship as-is.

On the SVG ask — agreed in principle, but neither the old nor the new icon currently has a vector source: both exist only as PNG. To do this properly we'd need someone with design skills to redraw whichever design we settle on as SVG. Anyone on the team know a designer in the community who'd be willing to contribute?

Default to option 1 unless mrjimenez / the team weigh in on the new design. Sorry again for the noise.

aMule != eMule. Why the same logo?

aMule's name + mascot are direct lineage from the xMule → lMule → aMule chain, all themed around the eMule mule mascot the projects forked from. That history is why both projects ended up with similar iconography. Your "aMule != eMule" point is fair though — the project has been independent for ~20 years now, and the visual identity could rightfully signal that rather than keep echoing the upstream we forked from.

The offer to vectorize is genuinely appreciated — that alone unblocks the SVG-source gap whichever way the design discussion lands.

For Flathub: I'll do the Lanczos upscale of the existing 128 to 256 so the submission isn't blocked on a design decision. The SVG / identity refresh can happen on its own track when you're ready.

Done in amule-org/amule#21 — old design restored as org.amule.aMule.png (bit-identical to pre-#15), Lanczos-upscaled to 256 for the Flathub minimum, and the Windows .ico / macOS .icns rebuilt with the same design (no >256 entries, no upscaled-from-nothing slots). Structural improvements from #15 (256 hicolor install path, metainfo screenshot URL pinning) stayed in place.

The identity refresh / SVG track is yours to drive whenever you and the team align on direction.

It's not perfect, but it might be used a starting point.

@Zeyckler since you already helped with the new SVG icons. Could you take a look at the SVG logo for aMule?
Simply by converting the icon we currently have into a vector image it would already be a huge improvement for us. We don't have any graphic designers, and we need the SVG icon for our website and to publish in some app stores.

It would be enough to convert the current PNG icon to SVG and make sure it doesn't have too many visual artifacts, which automatic tools tend to leave behind. There have also been suggestions to change the logo. If you'd like to submit a proposal, that's welcome, too.
