Opening the .xpi file on my system starts a new browser instance. .xpi is associated with browser usually on many systems.

Describe the solution you'd like
When "View Source" clicked, browser popup download dialog, to let user select path to save the .xpi. (adding .zip after filename would be better)

How you choose to configure file opening has nothing to do with the script. In about:preferences > Applications, set xpi to Save, Open, or Always ask. I open xpi files in an archive viewer like 7-zip file manager.

I don't know of any reason to associate xpi files with a browser. Only Firefox and forks of Firefox use xpi files, and they should have their own special handling. When you install addons from AMO, it does not download them as files in the first place. And sideloading addons should be done through about:addons or by dragging and dropping them into the profile/extensions folder.
