Challenges for paleo taxonomy in DwC #42

@ekrimmel

Description

@ekrimmel

How can paleo collections better share taxonomic data? Paleo taxonomy is complicated by taxa where the higher classification is uncertain and by identifications which can only be made to a rank e.g. subfamily, which does not have a DwC equivalent. These complications lead to situations where paleo taxonomic data published on aggregators (iDigBio, GBIF) gets "cleaned" with results that are unpredictable and often inhibit discoverability. This webinar will look at how these complications are handled in the ADBC standard, as well as brainstorm potential solutions, including the possibility of advocating for additional classification fields in the DwC standard.
