Jest error: Cannot use import statement outside a module

I am using ui5/web-components-react. When I try to run the tests I got the error:
import '@ui5/webcomponents/dist/Assets.js';
SyntaxError: Cannot use import statement outside a module

Can someone please suggest the solution?

In short, Jest doesn't "understand" ES modules (ESM) imports, so adding @ui5 libraries to the transformIgnorePatterns in the Jest config should prevent this error.
