Simple horizontal selector [just demo].
Still needs some bug fixes but besides that everything works.

You can switch back to the classic grid view and vice versa.

An updated version, supporting clones, drag-and-drop, context menus, more compact and improoved contrast, and the sprite's preview shows on hover.
Disadvantage: it no longer works with vanilla Scratch, at least for now.
