Cannot compile in Arduino IDE anymore, it says Sketch to big

Not sure at what version did this happen, but I cannot compile this anymore on the latest version, even if I use huge settings

text section exceeds available space in boardSketch uses 3249945 bytes (103%) of program storage space. Maximum is 3145728 bytes.

Global variables use 64360 bytes (19%) of dynamic memory, leaving 263320 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 327680 bytes.

You need to change the partition scheme. You can do this by adding 'partitions.csv' and modifying 'boards.txt'. However, this is how it’s done in Arduino IDE 1.8*. Please search for how to do it.

But I never needed to do any of this, I always just downloaded the latest zip and it compiled fine, what changed between then and this latest release?

Which version was successful before? Since this month, when VSCode support started, the library has been added, so the size has increased.

What might help is to switch the partition Scheme to "Custom". In my case it worked.
