feature request: kitty alternatives in nixos

Kitty does not work on my old Intel gm965 laptop due to this hardware not having the required EGL support.
Would it be possible to add a flag to use foot instead of kitty?

yep fair question.

I can look into it, but this is not quite as small as adding a nix flag unfortunately. kitty is baked into a few parts of sysc-greet at the moment: the greeter compositor configs, the installer, the nix module, the window rules, and some of the keyboard handling workarounds.

foot may still be a good option here, especially for older hardware, but I would want to do it properly rather than just swapping the binary and hoping the rest behaves the same.

I will keep this open and have a proper look when I get a chance.

Triage (2026-06-18): Keeping open as enhancement.

development branch adds a Nix compositorCommand override, but kitty is still baked into greeter configs, installer, window rules, and keyboard workarounds — a proper foot/alternative-terminal option needs a broader pass, not just a binary swap.
