Recent Activity doesn't display correctly on mobile devices

the formatting for recent activity doesn't take mobile screen boundaries into account, making the text go off-screen. nothing else seems to be affected on mobile.

displaying recent activity also seems to take a hit on performance, which is something that should be looked into
