Codex App shows sign in screen frequently and only works after remove and re-add the account in Codex Switcher.

I’m experiencing the same issue.

The behavior is as follows:

• I have two Codex accounts.
• I switch accounts using Codex Switcher.
• After the account switch is completed, I open Codex again.
• The Codex main interface opens normally.
• However, when I click into an existing task / conversation, Codex suddenly asks me to sign in again.

So it doesn’t seem like the account switch itself is failing. Instead, the authentication state appears to become invalid only when Codex actually tries to open an existing task.

I suspect this may be related to auth.json or refresh token synchronization. Codex may refresh its token during normal use, while Codex Switcher may still have an older copy of the account credentials stored. When switching accounts, the older credentials could potentially overwrite the latest ones, causing Codex to require authentication again when opening a task.

It may be worth checking whether Codex Switcher should sync the latest live auth.json back to the currently active account profile before switching to another account.

This appears to be the same stale-token issue reported in #127 and #37.

Codex can rotate the active account's refresh token and write the new credentials to ~/.codex/auth.json, while Codex Switcher still keeps the older token set in ~/.codex-switcher/accounts.json. On a later account switch, the stale credentials can be restored, causing Codex to show the sign-in screen. Removing and re-adding the account works temporarily because it stores a fresh token set.

PR #128 fixes this switch-time path by:

• saving the latest live credentials back to the matching stored account before switching;
• matching by ChatGPT account ID so credentials cannot be copied to another account;
• serializing account switches, token refreshes, and OAuth completion;
• preventing a late refresh from overwriting the newly selected account.

If possible, could someone affected test the PR with the same account-switching workflow?

I have built this PR, id say fixed sorta.. you CANNOT open any previous conversations, you MUST remove completely all accounts, close switcher, re-open switcher, re-add all accounts, then open codex, then your golden. I am assuming the older convos are tied to the old AuthID, as when you open them, they immediately cause codex to head back to sign-in. So far fixed for me with 2 accounts.

I tried PR #128
After I removed and re-added all of the ChatGPT accounts, I don't seem to be having the issue of ChatGPT app signing me out when I click on a chat thread after switching the account.

Can anyone verify the code and confirm if it's good to merge?
