Why does Minimalist Media Player not work？

Following the dependencies in Readme.MK of the MinimalistMediaPlayerX project, all dependencies files were placed in the same folder as MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe（

）, but MMP cannot be worked. The prompt is as follows.

I pulled the latest repository copy of MinimalistMediaPlayerX with Windows 11+Delphi 13 Patch 2.

Hi, I have several questions arising from your screenshot.

1. Are these files all from the latest v5.1.6 zip file, downloaded from my GitHub Releases page? (Most of them are the wrong size compared to the ones I provide)
2. To clarify, where did you get your zip file from?
3. Why don't the time and dates of these files match what's in my v5.1.6 Zip file?
4. Where did ffplay.exe come from? (I don't distribute this file - MMP doesn't use it)
5. What processor are you running on? (Celeron etc. isn't supported)
6. How did you launch MMP to get this error message?
7. You have a copy of libmpv-2.dll from 2022 (!) - where did you get it? (It's about half the size it should be [130MB])
8. Did you build MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe yourself?

My advice (assuming you're not running on a Celeron processor) is to delete all the files and folders in your MMP folder and start again.

• Run MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe directly so that you get a blank window
• Drag and drop a video (or audio file, or image) onto the window to play it

N.B. If you're building the exe yourself from my source code, the first thing you need to do is get release v5.1.6 running successfully using the files I distribute in the above zip file.

Previously，I collected them item by item from the Dependencies section of the README.MD file in the project. After completing the collection, I compiled them myself and encountered the above problem.

I tried unzipping MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe from MinimalistMediaPlayer_v5_1_6.full.zip

as you suggested, but there was no response when I clicked to run it. I tried running mmp-install.bat from install folder again, but it still didn't work despite registering the associated media files.

Can you please provide a screenshot like your first one showing the file details (timestamps, file size, etc)

What happens when you double-click the exe?
Is it running in Task Manager?
What happens when you double-click a supported video type, e.g. .mp4, .avi?
What happens when you double-click an image, e.g. .jpg?

No response when I double-clicked the MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe.
And it is not running in Task Manager.

And Pop up a window to select the associated application when I double-click a supported video type and image etc.

Unzip all the files and replace everything in your MMP folder.

From the screenshot, I am still not happy with the timestamps for MediaInfo.dll and MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe
They don't seem to match what I have provided via my releases page.

When you've unzipped/replaced, kindly provide a new screenshot of the file details.

The problem still persists. Double clicking MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe. has no response, and there is no corresponding process in the Task Mangager. Double clicking on videos and images only pops up a window to select the associated application.

Thanks for the new info. Some of the binaries are showing a timestamp which is 7 or 8 hours ahead, which I assume is because of the time difference. I'm surprised that Windows thinks that's useful, rather than just showing the timestamp in the file.

Questions - please answer each question in turn:

1. did you rerun the mmp-install.bat file from the v5.2.0 folder?
2. what processor are you running on?
3. what anti-virus software are you running?
4. are you logged into Windows as an administrator?
5. if you run RegEdit, in Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, has it added all the "io.mmp..." keys ?

6. in Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications, has it added the "MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe" key?

7. If you expand the "MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe" key, does it show all the supported file extensions in a long list on the right?

If those registry keys don't exist

• try running mmp-install.bat as administrator (right-click "Run as Administrator")
• try running the MMP executable as administrator

My initial thought was that your anti-virus software was blocking the launch of MMP, but if that was the case I would have expected it to report that to you and quarantine the file.

Let me know how you get on

EDIT: if running as administrator fixes the problems, you could set MMP to always run "as administrator":

1. right-click on "MinimalistMediaPlayer.exe" and selected "Properties"
2. go to the "Compatibility" tab
3. select "Run this program as an administrator"

However, if you have UAC enabled, you might get a UAC prompt every time you try to play a media file with MMP.

Also, something else you could try is to open a command prompt in the same folder as the executable and manually run "minimalistmediaplayer.exe"

What happens? You should get the following dialog box

Followed your directions, I retried it. But there was no response. NO dialog box like above. I'm running on Windows 11(25H2) now.

Well that is utterly bizarre! I have to admit to being totally stumped at this point.
I have to assume that the application is trying to start but immediately closing again, but why that is, I have no idea.

The only thing I can suggest is to

• load the project in Delphi
• remove the build event [copy] commands from the debug configuration in Project/Options
• remove any media file path in the parameters in Run/Parameters
• unless you already have the FastMM5 source installed, comment out the calls to FastMM for now
• build the debug version
• put a breakpoint on line 171 of the .dpr file (the call to setupRunMode)
• F9 to run MMP and wait for it to stop on the breakpoint
• F8 to step through each line of the project file and see how far you can get before the process terminates

Presumably it must be terminating before it gets anywhere near showing the message dialog.

Please do. I had a quick look to see if I could pull all the dependent source code units from JCL, HTMLViewer, etc, into the project to make it easier for you to build, without having to install all the components in the IDE but there are too many of them to do it quickly for you.
